What the Guaranteed Analysis on Lotus Cal Mag Says

The guaranteed analysis on Lotus Cal Mag is nitrogen led. Total nitrogen is 13.0 percent, split as 12.0 percent nitrate and 1.0 percent ammoniacal. Calcium sits at 12.0 percent and magnesium at 2.0 percent, listed as water soluble. It is derived from calcium ammonium nitrate and magnesium nitrate, and that nitrate-led nitrogen is not incidental. Nitrate is the form roots take up fastest, and calcium travels into the plant on the transpiration stream alongside it. That puts calcium to magnesium at six to one by weight.

Charging Fresh Coco Coir Before the First Feed

New coco coir arrives with its exchange sites loaded with sodium and potassium. Those sites would rather hold calcium and magnesium. Left alone, the medium strips both out of the first several feeds and the plant never sees them. Growers then blame a base nutrient for a deficiency the substrate caused. Running a charge through the medium before planting fills those sites deliberately and flushes the excess sodium and chloride that comes with raw fibre. The feeding chart is stage-based rather than a single blanket rate. It calls for half a teaspoon per gallon in the fourth week of vegetative growth. The same half teaspoon runs through the first three weeks of flower. Powder carries one advantage and one requirement. A 15 oz jar replaces several litres of shipped water, so freight and shelf space both drop. But it has to go into warm water and dissolve completely before anything else enters the reservoir. Grains sitting undissolved at the bottom do nothing at all for the plant.
