Running an LED HPS Hybrid Through Veg and Flower
An led hps hybrid lets you keep the canopy warmth of HPS while getting most of your light from efficient LED. Many growers run LED only in veg, which keeps plants compact and saves power. After the flip, bring in the HPS lamp to add radiant heat at the leaf, which helps transpiration in cool or humid rooms. The separate far-red channel can run at the end of the day to speed the shift into flower. Because every channel dims on its own, one fixture can follow a crop from veg to harvest. Matrix calls for at least 4 feet of clearance between the fixture and the canopy. That height matters because the HPS lamp throws heat that bar LEDs do not. Watch leaf temperature with an infrared thermometer when you first add the HPS channel. Plan for the MC5 controller, since full control of the three channels depends on it. For rooms with low ceilings, an all-LED fixture fits better.
