These glasses carry proprietary polymer lenses by Carl Zeiss Vision, tuned for metal halide grow lights in the 6,500 to 10,000 K range. Under that light the lenses balance the colour of the room, so leaves read closer to their true green. A flash silver coating on the outer face cuts the intensity of a bright halide room. The same coating makes the glasses comfortable to wear outdoors. The lenses block 100% of UVA, UVB and UVC light. Each lens is decentered, so the view stays clear toward the edges of the wrap. The full-wrap frame is TR-90, a Swiss polymer that stays light and flexible. The frame is made in Italy and wraps around for full coverage at the front and sides. Ceramic metal halide lamps from 3,000 to 4,200 K fall outside what this lens is tuned for.

Wearing MH Glasses in a Halide Room

MH glasses earn their place in a vegetative room, where halide lamps run long days over young plants. Put them on before stepping into the room, and make sure they sit securely. Wear them the whole time the lights are on, and take them off on the way out. With the colour balanced, a grower can judge leaf colour and check new growth at a glance. Pale tips, spotting and early mildew are easier to pick out on foliage that looks natural. The wrap also shields the eyes from light bouncing off white walls and reflective hoods. Keep the glasses in a case or soft pouch between rooms to protect the coating. Clean the lenses with a microfiber cloth and plain water rather than a shirt tail. Check the lamp type before use, since the lens is tuned for standard metal halide rather than ceramic metal halide. In a facility with several light types, label each pair so workers grab the right one. On a bright day the same pair also works outdoors on the way between greenhouses.
