How the Method Seven Citadel FX2 Lens Works
An LED grow fixture concentrates its output into narrow spectral bands. The eye adapts badly to that, which is the whole problem these lenses address. Method Seven name the two worst bands as 385 to 440 and 660 to 700 nanometres. The FX2 lens attenuates both and blocks ultraviolet below 400 nanometres. What that gives you is colour you can trust under a fixture, and less eye fatigue after an hour. Method Seven also credit a reduction in infrared heat reaching the eye. The frame is thermo-injected TR90 polymer, designed in California and made in Italy. It carries an ANSI Z87 plus impact rating, which is the industrial eye protection standard. Fit is a slight wrap with rubber nose pads, cut for an average to large face. Method Seven cover the glasses with a lifetime warranty against material and workmanship defects.
What the Lens Coatings Are Actually For
Lens coatings on a grow-room pair do more work than they do on sunglasses. Resin Repel goes on both faces and is the one that matters in a flowering room. Resin lands on a lens and smears, and a coated lens wipes clean instead of staying hazy. An anti-reflective layer cuts the ghost images a bright fixture throws inside a lens. Anti-fog matters because a room at high humidity will fog an uncoated lens in seconds. The petrol mirror on the outer face reflects some of the load before it reaches the lens. Together those four are the difference between a usable pair and a pair left in a drawer. Clean them with water and a microfibre cloth rather than with solvent. Isopropyl strips coatings over time, and a stripped lens fogs and hazes again. The frame comes in two colours. The Citadel comes in matte black and in gunmetal grey as separate references. The lens is identical in both, so the colour is the only choice to make.
Key Features
- FX2 lens: Attenuates the 385 to 440 and 660 to 700 nanometre spikes an LED fixture throws.
- Blocks ultraviolet below 400 nm: That covers the ultraviolet an LED chip emits.
- Four coatings: Resin Repel on both faces, anti-reflective, anti-fog and a petrol mirror.
- ANSI Z87 plus rated: The industrial impact standard rather than a consumer sunglass rating.
- TR90 frame: Thermo-injected polymer, designed in California and made in Italy.
- Average to large fit: A slight wrap with rubber nose pads for side coverage.
- Two frame colours: The Citadel comes in matte black and in gunmetal grey.
- Lifetime warranty: Against defects in materials and workmanship.
- Clean with water only: Solvent strips the coatings, and a stripped lens fogs again.
