This is the configuration most growers mean when they ask for the angle version of the Series 80. Model 61ET1.5GH2-AN, item 71640-007426, carries the standard 24VAC solenoid on a 1-1/2 in angle body. Water rises through the bottom inlet and turns out the side, so the valve doubles as the elbow on top of a riser. It handles 0.25 to 110 GPM at 7 to 150 psi, with water up to 140°F. The coil is efficient, drawing 0.22 A inrush and 0.095 A holding at 24VAC ±10%. Those low currents allow longer wire runs from the controller than most solenoids tolerate. At 100 GPM the angle body loses only about 5.0 psi, less than the matching globe. Body, bonnet and seat are glass-reinforced polyamide with stainless 304 hardware and a 302 stainless spring. The unit measures about 3-1/2 x 6-1/2 x 6-13/16 in and weighs 1.8 lb. An integrated check valve keeps the zone shut until the controller opens it.

Wire it to any irrigation controller with a 24VAC station output, one common and one station wire per valve. That makes it the easy choice when a site already has a sprinkler-style timer or a greenhouse controller with AC outputs. The angle shape fits best where the mainline tees up into a riser, because it saves the elbow and a couple of joints. Fewer joints means fewer leak points in a crowded valve box. Set it with the bonnet upright, the flow arrow pointing out the side outlet, and enough room to reach the flow control stem. That stem trims a zone that runs hot, or closes it completely while you work downstream. Command water passes through a clog-free labyrinth inlet, so moderately dirty water or reclaimed water will not foul the pilot. Upstream filtration is still worth having for the emitters, though, since the valve protects itself and not the drip line. This Netafim Series 80 AC valve is normally closed. A power cut or a blown fuse at the controller leaves the zone off rather than flooding a bench.
