One Netafim Combination Air Vent Covers Both Failure Modes

Two jobs live in one body here. On startup the large orifice discharges the column of air running ahead of the water. On shutdown it admits air just as fast, so the line never pulls a vacuum against the emitters. Once the system is pressurized the small orifice takes over as a continuous acting air vent, bleeding off the air that separates out of solution. The body is reinforced UV-protected nylon with no metal parts to rust, and the patented rolling seal opens and closes gradually instead of slamming.

Placement and Sizing for a 1 Inch Air Vacuum Relief Valve

Netafim’s spacing guidance is one vent every 1,500 feet along a mainline. Add one at the pump and filter station, and one at each dead end. Mount it vertically on a riser that matches the 1-inch NPT male inlet — laid on its side the float cannot seat. The float stays open until air pressure reaches 12 psi, so it clears a long fill before the water arrives. At 1.90 lbs and 5.51 inches wide, this Netafim air valve is heavier than the small plastic air relief valves growers put on drip laterals.
