Model 65ARIB2 is the large end of the family. The large orifice discharges the air column ahead of the water on fill. It admits that air back just as fast when the line drains. Without the intake side, a big main can pull a vacuum and draw grit backward through the emitters. Once pressure is up the small orifice keeps working as a continuous acting air vent. It releases the air that comes out of solution and gathers at the crown of the pipe. The body is reinforced UV-protected nylon with no metal parts to rust, and the patented rolling seal opens and closes gradually rather than snapping shut.

Go up to the 2-inch when the main is 4 inches or larger. The same applies when fill and drain rates outrun what a smaller vent can pass. Netafim puts a vent every 1,500 feet along a mainline, plus one at the pump and filter station and one at each dead end. Mount it upright on a riser matching the 2-inch NPT male inlet, because a float lying on its side will not seat. The float stays open until air pressure reaches 12 psi, so a long fill clears before water arrives at the vent. At 2.35 lbs and 7.09 inches wide it is a real fitting, not a drip-line accessory. On a 2-inch or 3-inch main the 1-inch version usually passes plenty of air for less money.
