Netafim PC Spray Stake, Blue 10.6 GPH Double Pattern
Placing a spray head beside the trunk of a container tree only works if it waters both sides of the root ball. This Netafim head, item 22500-002670 and model 01PSDS-BL2-B, is built for exactly that position. It is the light blue, double pattern head that pairs with Netafim's 10.6 GPH dripper assembly. Netafim calls the shape a bow-tie, and says one such stake can do the work of two or more traditional stakes. The spray angles downward so water lands on the mix instead of flying over the pot wall. Even wetting holds more water in the mix and activates top-dressed fertilizer uniformly. This version sits on the standard molded stake, about 8 in long overall, and pushes straight into the media. Netafim matches 10.6 GPH heads to containers of about 10 to 30 gallons. Its spray points away from the trunk, keeping water off the stem base, a weak point for some species. Every bag contains 50 light blue heads.
Designing a Zone of Double Pattern Spray Stakes
Each head needs a matching blue dripper assembly with its pressure compensating dripper, micro tube and elbow. Netafim's zone chart puts 500 of these stations at about 88 GPM, so size the water supply first. With 3/4 in PE pipe, 48 in spacing and 35 psi at the inlet, one run can reach 292 ft and 73 pots. Pressure compensation allows longer runs, smaller supply pipe, fewer submains and fewer valves. Keep inlet pressure between 22 and 55 psi, and filter centrally to 120 mesh. Netafim's PC design also nearly eliminates misting, even at pressures up to 60 psi. The assembly's check valve stops the pipes draining onto the lowest plants after irrigation. Netafim notes that 100 ft of 4 in pipe holds 65 gallons that would otherwise drain out. Turn off any pot by moving the tube and nipple to the side of the stake. The side position reads clearly from the aisle, so off heads are easy to find.
