Wide benches and widely spaced containers put some plants a long way from the nearest lateral. A longer lead bridges that gap without moving the supply line. Netafim item 40001-001400, model 15FPE53-48, delivers 100 such leads cut to 48 in each. Its full name is Pre-Cut Flex Black Polyethylene Tubing. The bore is 3 mm and the outside diameter is 5 mm, the size Netafim writes as 5/3 mm. Netafim's own PC spray stake dripper assemblies come with leads of Flex Black PE in this length. So a pack of loose leads matches the tube in those assemblies. The tube also fits the 3 x 5 outlets on Netafim's flat multi-outlet manifolds. Black polyethylene of this grade resists UV and acids. It stands up to heat, direct sun and harsh chemicals on an exposed bench.

Running a 48 Inch Drip Lead to Distant Pots

Start from the pot farthest from the lateral and confirm a single lead reaches it with some slack. Slack lets the lead follow the pot when containers are spaced out later in the crop. Fit one end firmly over the barb of the dripper or manifold. Seat the stake or emitter on the free end and push the stake into the mix. Use the same lead on every station in a zone so each plant sees the same friction. Coil any extra length loosely on the pot rather than letting it cross an aisle. Clear the supply line by flushing before the leads are attached. Open the zone and watch every joint during the first cycle. A lead that drips at the barb just needs pushing on a little further. Keep a few spare leads from the pack for repairs during the season.
