Netafim MegaNet Low Trajectory Sprinkler, Brown Nozzle

Under a fruit canopy, water does the most good on the ground, not on the leaves above it. This head, Netafim item 63600-007000 and model MGN15D-242HO, keeps its stream at a flat 15° angle instead. The brown cap marks a nominal 2.42 GPM at 33 psi through a 3.08 mm nozzle. A low jet loses less water to evaporation where fields see steady wind. Two matched jets on a turning rotor keep the rotation balanced and the coverage even. The drops land softly, so the soil surface does not groove when the system starts or stops. An integral filter at the inlet keeps the nozzle clear and pulls out for rinsing. A pop-up cover opens only under pressure, which keeps insects and dirt out of the moving parts. Materials are UV protected and stand up to the fertilizers injected through the line. Fit it on a solid-set riser or a removable field stand with its 1/2 in male thread.

Setting Up Under Canopy Irrigation With a 15° Head

Orchard floors, banana plantings, shade houses and net houses are the usual homes for the low-angle model. Its stream peaks only about 3.6 ft above the nozzle, some 17 ft out from the head. That clearance helps keep the water below low branches, shade cloth and greenhouse roofs. Hold pressure between 29 and 44 psi at the head for the rated pattern. At 36 psi the brown nozzle moves about 2.43 GPM, and about 2.66 GPM at 44 psi. On a 33 x 33 ft layout that applies about 0.22 to 0.24 in of water per hour. Spacing can open up to about 33 x 39 ft where a lighter rate is enough. Clean water needs no extra filtration, while pond or river sources call for 40 mesh. Check the light-colored locking pin after servicing, since it marks the low model and holds the rotor and cap together. Plan to replace the cover and turbine about every 2,000 irrigation hours.
