Supply lines hung high under tall gutters can still put water straight into each basket with a long, pre-assembled drop. This pack, Netafim item 40201-015406 and model 01HBA2W-48, contains 25 assemblies. This 48 in assembly is built on the WPC5 Woodpecker dripper, rated 0.53 GPH. It is pressure compensating, with a low-closing no-leak check valve that shuts at about 2.2 psi. The dripper cap is color-coded red and brown. From the dripper, 48 in of Super Flex UV White polyethylene tube in the 5/3 mm size runs down to the basket. At the bottom sits a white EZ Close weight, 2 1/4 in tall and 1/2 in wide, at about 0.4 oz. A single hand closes the weight, stopping flow to one basket while the rest keep watering. The open or closed position is easy to read at a glance from the aisle. Its slim, snag-free body slides out of dense or trailing foliage when the basket is pulled.

Hanging Basket Watering From a 48 Inch Drop

Insert the dripper into the supply line and let the tube hang to the basket below. Set the weight into the media, where its extra mass keeps it in place through every cycle. It holds well in any growing mix and in vining or aggressive-rooting crops. Pressure compensation evens out flow along the line, for watering uniformity of about 94 percent. The no-leak check valve keeps the drop full after shutdown, so the long tube does not drain into the basket. Water goes on slowly and evenly, so the media wets through without spilling over the rim. Plan zone flow at about half a gallon per hour per basket. Close the weight when a basket leaves the line to keep fertilizer off the crop and floor below. Reopen it as soon as a fresh basket is hung. Labor saved on hand watering commonly pays for systems like this within the first season.
