A zero-hour re-entry interval means the crew never has to leave the room, and spraying can run to the day of cutting. Procidic 2 is a citric-acid concentrate that works on contact and moves inside the plant.

What Procidic 2 Does to Powdery Mildew

The active ingredient is citric acid at 3.43%, with the balance made up of vitamin C, glycerin, ethyl lactate, soapbark, sodium citrate and water. That chemistry puts it in the FIFRA 25(b) minimum-risk category, so it carries no EPA registration number. The signal word on the label is CAUTION. Re-entry interval is zero hours, and applications are allowed up to and including the day of harvest once the spray has dried. Washington State's Department of Agriculture registers it as a material for use in organic agriculture. Label rates are given per gallon of water. For powdery mildew and gray mold, preventative work runs 0.5 to 3.0 fl oz, which is 15 to 90 mL. A curative spray goes heavier, at 1 to 3.5 fl oz, or 25 to 100 mL. Root rot is dosed lighter as a drench, at 0.4 to 0.5 fl oz preventative and up to 1 fl oz curative. Named targets are powdery mildew, Botrytis gray mold, and the root rot complex of Fusarium, Pythium, Phytophthora and Rhizoctonia. It is taken up through stem, leaf and root and moves toward the growing tip, which is what the systemic claim rests on. The quart holds 32 oz and ships at 2.49 lb, part number PROCID1Q, UPC 859347003188.

Spraying an Organic Systemic Fungicide Through to Harvest

An organic systemic fungicide only behaves systemically if the spray actually reaches live green tissue. Procidic 2 works best at the first sign of disease, or ahead of it entirely. Preventative intervals run every five to ten days on foliage and every seven to fourteen days as a root drench. Curative work tightens to every three to five days on foliage, or every five days as a drench, until control holds. There is no cap on the number of applications in a season. Water quality is the step that decides whether any of this works. The label asks for reverse osmosis water, or water under two hundred parts per million, free of organic matter. Adjust pH into the five and a half to six window before the product goes in, not after. Hard water wants a salt buffer first, and chlorinated water is off the list entirely. Do not tank mix with salt-based or high-alkali products. Live microorganisms are also out, with one exception the label names. Bacillus amyloliquefaciens is allowed, and even then leave ten days between a beneficial application and this one. Jar test anything else before committing a whole tank, and avoid spraying when rain is on the way.
