PyGanic 5.0 Rates, Straight From the Label

Most people arrive on this page wanting the numbers, so they go first. Ground or air application on growing crops runs 4.5 to 15.61 fl oz per acre in enough water for thorough coverage. For handheld equipment the label gives 1/4 to 1/2 fl oz per gallon of water. Concentration is 5% pyrethrins, which works out to 0.41 lbs of pyrethrins in every gallon of product. EPA Reg. No. 1021-1772.

Getting the PyGanic Application Rate to Actually Work

Two variables decide whether a correct pyganic application rate does anything at all. The first is pH. Pyrethrins degrade outside a narrow band, and the label asks for a final spray mix buffered to pH 5.5 to 7.0. Mix into unbuffered tap water at pH 8 and the active breaks down before it reaches a pest. The second is contact. Pyrethrins have no systemic action and no residual worth counting on, so anything the spray misses survives. Coverage beats concentration here, every time. REI is 12 hours, there is no pre-harvest interval, and there is no annual cap on applications. It is approved against more than 40 insects across more than 200 fruits and vegetables. It also tank mixes with Bacillus thuringiensis, azadirachtin and spinosad products. Always read and follow the label, which governs over anything on this page.

Key Features

  • 5% pyrethrins, 0.41 lbs per gallon: Botanically derived from chrysanthemum, formulated as an emulsifiable concentrate.
  • Label rate 4.5 to 15.61 fl oz per acre: Handheld equipment dilutes at 1/4 to 1/2 fl oz per gallon of water.
  • No pre-harvest interval: Applications can be made on the day of harvest, subject to the 12 hour REI.
  • Buffer the mix to pH 5.5 to 7.0: Pyrethrins degrade outside that band, so hard alkaline water wastes the application.
  • Cleared for organic production: EPA Reg. No. 1021-1772, signal word CAUTION, compatible with IPM and WPS programs.

Pollinator and Beneficial Insect Warning

  • PyGanic is broad spectrum and will kill beneficial insects, including honey bees.
  • Do not apply, or allow drift, to blooming crops or weeds while bees are foraging in the area.
  • Consider carefully before any outdoor use, and avoid plants carrying open flowers.
  • Applying at dawn or dusk reduces the risk to foraging bees.
  • Released beneficials will need replacing. Reintroduce them one to two days after application.
