What the Quest Supply Air Duct Collar Kit Fits

Quest part 4028607 is two round 10 in duct collars, eight self-drilling hex screws and two 35 in strips of foam tape. It fits the supply, or discharge, openings of the Dual series overhead dehumidifiers. It fits the Dual 105 (PN 4032270), Dual 155 (4031490), Dual 165 (4037410), Dual 205 (4033060), Dual 225 (4035400), the 185 Cool (4033180) and the 50 Hz 155 (4037400). These are the machines that hang from the ceiling and throw dry air out of both sides, which is why the kit carries two collars. Each collar has four tabs that bend outward and line up with pre-drilled holes in the cabinet at the discharge opening. The foam tape goes around the inside edge of the collar before it is fitted, and that is the seal between collar and cabinet. Four screws per collar, driven with a 5/16 in hex driver on a drill or nut driver, hold it. The job is a limited amount of ductwork attached to the air outlet, so the dehumidifier can sit outside the garden. A Dual 205 bolted to the joists in a hallway, with two short duct runs through the wall, dries the room without hanging over the canopy. That takes the heat and the blower noise out of the grow space. The service side of the machine stays where a ladder can reach it. The kit covers the supply side only. Quest pairs it with its return duct kit, part 4028610, when the intake is to be ducted as well. Ductwork and a register grille are not in the box. The whole kit weighs about 2.45 lb. The instruction sheet opens with the one line that matters: disconnect the dehumidifier from power before any of it starts.

Fitting a Dehumidifier Duct Attachment Without Starving the Unit

A dehumidifier duct attachment changes what the blower has to push against. A Dual overhead unit was sized to breathe freely out of both ends. Duct both outlets, or duct one and leave the other open. Capping the second outlet to force everything through one run cuts the airflow the machine was rated on. The pint figure drops with it. Keep each run short and as straight as the joists allow. Keep the full collar diameter the whole way, with no reducer to a smaller size because that was what was on the shelf. Bend the collar tabs before the foam goes on, since the tape is harder to work around once it is in place. Press the foam into the inside edge and trim the end flush rather than overlapping it, so the collar seats flat on the cabinet. Drive the eight screws snug and then a quarter turn, because the cabinet sheet metal strips if they are run in hard. Tape the duct to the collar with foil tape. Dry air off a dehumidifier coil is warm, and cloth duct tape lets go in a season. Aim the supply runs so the dry air drops into the canopy rather than hitting a wall. Dry air is heavier than moist air and falls on its own if it is given the chance. Check the foam seal at the start of each cycle. A hiss at the collar is moist room air being pulled back into the cabinet joint, and that is water the unit removes twice. Label which run goes to which side of the room, because from the floor the two ducts look alike.
