When to Fit a Hanna Replacement pH Probe
A meter body rarely fails outright. The glass wears, the junction clogs, and calibration starts drifting, and that is the probe rather than the electronics. This one carries a pre-amplified pH electrode, so the signal is boosted at the probe and picks up less noise along the cable. EC and TDS are read amperometrically across two stainless steel pins. A temperature sensor sits in the same body, which is what compensates both the pH and the conductivity readings. The range is pH 0 to 13, compensated from 0 to 50 °C.
What the HI1285-6 Probe Fits and How It Plugs In
The body is polypropylene and the pH tip is a spherical 8 mm bulb. Fins around it take the knock when the probe lands on a bench. Inside is gel electrolyte against a single Ag/AgCl reference, so there is nothing to refill. It plugs in through a Quick Connect DIN fitting with CAL Check, on a seven-pole cable 1 m long. Maximum pressure is 0.1 bar. Before you replace anything, try the junction. The cloth junction pulls out to expose a fresh surface, and drifty or erratic readings often come back from that alone. One thing to check on the part number. The HI1285-7 is the GroLine HI9814 probe and is not the same fitting, so match the number to the meter you actually own.
