Mounting a Backdraft Shutter in the Right Place
It can be mounted either horizontally or vertically because the flaps are sprung, not gravity-hung. Fit it downstream of the fan, flaps opening with the flow. There is a modest static pressure cost, which at this size is worth it for the reverse-flow it stops. The maintenance is trivial and mostly ignored: clean the rubber seat, or dust will hold the flaps a fraction open. Expect a distinct thump when the fan stops. That is the flaps seating, and it is normal.
