
How the 16 Inch Back Draught Damper Seals an Idle Duct
This is the largest one-way gate in the Ruck range, at 16 in. The flaps are spring-loaded aluminium and seat on a rubber seal; the housing is galvanized sheet steel. At this diameter a stopped fan without a damper is effectively an open window, so the part pays for itself on heating alone.
Mounting a Backdraft Shutter in the Right Place
Spring loading allows horizontal or vertical mounting, which matters on a duct this size where routing is rarely ideal. Fit it downstream of the fan with the flaps opening in the flow direction. It costs a little static pressure. Against the reverse draught through a 16 in opening, that is an easy trade. Clean the rubber seat during fan servicing so the flaps seat fully. At this bore the flaps are heavy, so a fan running at very low output may not hold them fully open.
