A base nutrient is written against a medium, and this one assumes an enriched soil that already holds a meaningful amount of magnesium. Mixing the House and Garden Two-Part Base
The sequence here is not optional. Fill the reservoir with fresh water, add part A, mix it through and let it stand. Then add part B, mix again and let it stand a second time. The two parts must never meet in concentrate. Calcium from one and sulfate or phosphate from the other will form a solid and settle out. That precipitate is nutrition your plants will never reach, and it also blocks emitters. Always use equal volumes of A and B, since the balance of the formulation depends on it. Set the tank to a pH of 6.3 once both parts are in, and do that before any stimulant or additive goes near it. Soil buffers the tank less predictably than an inert medium, so check the meter rather than trusting yesterday's number. The rest of this range drops in on top without a compatibility question.
