This is the 3 ft model in SunBlaster's single-tube fluorescent line: one high-output lamp, a built-in electronic ballast and an aluminum housing in a single bar. Most wire seed-starting racks are 36 in wide, and the housing measures about 37.3 x 3.5 x 1.5 in, so it runs the full width of the shelf. The tube draws 39W at 120V and burns at 6400K, a cool daylight spectrum that keeps seedlings and cuttings short. It puts out 2,850 initial lumens with 10,000 hours of lamp life. In the box are the lamp, the power cord with a roller switch, flush-mount hardware and hanging clips. Two strips side by side over a pair of 1020 trays is the usual layout on a 36 in shelf. Because fluorescent tubes run cool, SunBlaster's guidance lets the lamp sit as close as an inch or two above the canopy. That close hang is where a strip like this does its best work. Raise it a little each week as seedlings put on height, and keep the gap tight. Hung a foot or more above the trays, the light fades fast and plants stretch toward it.

Running a 3 ft T5 Grow Light Across a Seed-Starting Rack

The roller switch on the cord saves reaching behind the rack every time you want the light off for a closer look.
