CaTs® Calcium Thiosulfate is a highly efficient liquid source of calcium and sulfur designed for both crop nutrition and soil conditioning. This neutral to basic, chloride-free solution contains 6% calcium and 10% sulfur in a 100% soluble form, ensuring rapid movement through the soil profile and reliable availability to plant roots.
Each gallon of CaTs delivers approximately 0.63 lb Ca and 1.0 lb S, with a typical density of 10.4 lb/gal (specific gravity 1.25). This makes CaTs an excellent fit for precision liquid programs where every pound of nutrient needs to count.
Key Agronomic Benefits
-
Improves water infiltration & soil structure – 100% soluble calcium efficiently displaces sodium and other salts from the root zone, enhancing infiltration, reducing crusting, and helping manage salinity/sodicity issues.
-
Dual nutrient source: calcium + sulfur – Supports strong cell walls, firmness and appearance in fruits, vegetables and nuts, while sulfur improves nitrogen use and overall protein synthesis.
-
Recognized nitrogen stabilizer – The thiosulfate component acts as a nitrification inhibitor when blended with UAN or urea solutions, slowing conversion of ammonium to nitrate and reducing nitrogen losses from volatilization, leaching and denitrification. CaTs is recognized by AAPFCO as a nitrogen stabilizer.
-
Extends storability and shelf life – Programs using CaTs have been shown to improve density, firmness, storability and shelf life in crops like potatoes and onions by supporting consistent calcium nutrition.
-
Helps combat citrus greening & high pH soils – As both a calcium source and acidifier, CaTs can help manage high-pH calcareous soils, increase micronutrient and phosphorus availability, and support programs aimed at mitigating effects associated with citrus greening.
Versatile Application Options
CaTs is designed for flexible use across many cropping systems:
-
Fertigation: Easily injected through drip, micro-sprinkler, sprinkler/center pivot, flood or furrow systems to move calcium directly to the root zone and problem soils.
-
Soil-applied: Broadcast, banded or knife-injected (avoiding root pruning) as a soil amendment to improve tilth, leach harmful salts and correct Ca/S deficiencies.
-
Foliar (selected crops): Can be used in conjunction with soil programs for tree fruit and specialty crops where additional calcium is needed during rapid growth and fruit development.
-
Blending: Compatible with many liquid nitrogen fertilizers (UAN, liquid urea) for stabilized N plus calcium and sulfur in a single pass, provided blends are maintained above pH 6.0 and not mixed with phosphate, sulfate or ammonium thiosulfate fertilizers.
