What Is in TetraCURB MAX and How It Is Regulated
Four oils do the work and the label names all four with percentages. Castor oil sits at 20 percent, rosemary oil at 10 percent, clove oil at 3 percent and peppermint oil at 2 percent. The remaining 65 percent is a list of inert carriers including glycerol monooleate, sorbitol, isopropyl myristate, butyl lactate and several fatty acids. The regulatory status is the part most listings get wrong. This product is exempt under FIFRA section 25(b), which the label states plainly, and it has not been registered by the Environmental Protection Agency. That is a legitimate category and it is not the same thing as a registration. It is OMRI Listed for organic production. Kemin describe four ways it acts on a pest. The oils hit insect-specific octopamine receptors and cause paralysis. Castor oil suffocates by blocking the spiracle. The formula disrupts the waxy cuticle and the insect dries out. Vapour from the treated surface makes pests hyperactive and drives them off. Named targets are aphids, whiteflies, thrips, mealybugs and mites.
The Label Rates, and the Safety Wording Nobody Reprints
Four concentrations run from prevention to rescue and they are quoted per hundred gallons of finished solution. Preventative work is 0.25 percent, which is 32 fluid ounces in a hundred gallons. Moderate pressure doubles that to 64 fluid ounces. A heavy infestation goes to 128 fluid ounces and a rescue application to 256. The minimum finished volume is a hundred gallons per acre. Mix it by half filling a clean tank, adding the product, then topping up and mixing until the solution is uniform. There are no restrictions on the number of applications in a season. The harvest interval is zero days and the re-entry interval is zero hours. Now the wording that gets left off retail pages. The signal word is WARNING. The label states the product causes serious eye damage and may cause an allergic skin reaction, and it requires gloves plus eye and face protection. A zero hour re-entry interval is not a statement about the concentrate in the jug. Store it in the original container between 20 and 27 degrees Celsius and do not let it freeze.
