This is a temperature-driven speed controller, not a dumb dimmer. It ramps a fan between an idle floor you set, anywhere from 25 to 60 percent, and full output as the room warms. The control band runs 55°F to 95°F, read by a 6 ft probe accurate to within 2°F. Rating is 6 amps at 120V, 60 Hz. It is ETL listed for the US and Canada.

The day and night split is the real reason to fit one. Lights off means a cooler room, and without a night setting the fan either over-ventilates and dries the tent or cycles hard. Set the night idle low and let the probe handle the rest. There is also a low-temperature safety you can switch on, which stops the fan chilling the room past the point of use. How well it works comes down to two details. The current ceiling means checking your fan's nameplate before wiring it in. The probe also reads air wherever you clip it, so canopy height tells a different story from a spot up by the light.
