Why a Manual Rosin Pump Uses Two Stages

Closing the gap and building pressure are two different jobs, and one circuit does both badly. This pump runs a two-stage hydraulic circuit that solves it. With no load on the ram the first stage moves a large volume per stroke, so the plates close quickly. Once the plates meet the puck and resistance climbs, it shifts to the second stage. Less volume, far more pressure, and a lever you can still work by hand.
