What the Triminator XL Shear Band Does
This flexible nylon sheet wraps the underside of the XL Dry's slotted drum. As the drum turns, buds tumble inside while leaf poking through the slots is sheared off against the band. It is made from food-grade nylon, so it is suited to contact with flower. Holes along both edges hook over metal tabs on each side of the machine. A ratchet and tension knob then draw the band up until it meets the drum. Triminator notes that very little tension is needed to create an effective cutting surface. For the longest wear life, rotate the band's orientation every 10 hours of operation. The band is sized for the Triminator XL Dry only. Inspect it before every harvest, and replace it at the first sign of fraying, stretching or a rougher cut.
Fitting a Replacement Shear Band
A replacement shear band goes in with the drum removed, so plan the swap between runs. Switch off the motors and unplug the machine before any work starts. Release the band tension at the knob and pawl, then take the drum out with a second person and rest it on a soft surface. Lift the old band off its tabs and lay the new one so every hole rests evenly on the tabs along both sides. Refit the drum, then turn the tension knob until the band sits snug against it all the way across. Keep the tension light and never over-tighten it. Clean the band whenever residue builds up or trim quality drops. A spray rinse clears light build-up, while a few hours under cooking oil followed by warm soapy water lifts heavy resin. Use a non-metallic scrubber so the nylon stays smooth. Keep every cover and end cap in place whenever the trimmer runs, since the band can cause serious cuts.
