A Greenhouse Roll Up Motor Controller Built for Green-X

Roll-up sides and curtains are a simple, low-cost way to vent a hoop house, as long as someone is there to crank them. The TrolMaster DMC-1 takes over that job by driving a 24V DC roll-up motor from the Green-X GCS-1 controller. It plugs into standard 100–240V power and supplies the motor with up to 10A on its output terminals. Open, close and stop commands come from the controller, or from four buttons on top of the unit. A green LED means the controller is in charge, while red means someone is running it by hand. The motor's overload limit is set in the controller between 2 and 10 amps, and a timeout shutoff stops runaway travel. Each DMC-1 runs one motor. It can also link up to four TPS-1 position switches. The housing is rated IP44 against splashing water, and the controller link uses a locking waterproof 4-pin connector. TrolMaster lists it as conforming to UL 60730-1 and certified to CSA E60730.1. The box includes a 12 ft RJ12 to 4-pin IP65 cable, a power cable and a screwdriver for the terminals.

Programming TrolMaster DMC-1 Vent Moves From the Green-X

The GCS-1 Motor Setting page handles up to four motors, and each one can follow its own time schedule. Sync lets several motors copy the same schedule when a house has matching sides. Advanced settings add radiation, wind, rain, temperature and humidity triggers, each with an open or close direction and run time. Radiation setpoints go up to 1000 PPFD and can read indoor or outdoor light. Wind uses four levels from mild to strong, and rain uses light, medium and heavy. Every trigger gets a priority from 1 to 5, so rain can close the sides even on a hot afternoon. If a motor trips on overcurrent, the Resume setting restarts control once the jam is cleared. Use output wire no smaller than 16 AWG, and torque the terminals to at least 1.2 Nm so they stay tight. Mount the unit somewhere dry and within easy reach, since it is rated for 32 to 104°F. The shipping box measures 10.83 × 6.69 × 3.74 in and weighs 4.63 lbs.
