What the TrolMaster CO2 Sensor Measures
The MBS-S8 is the CO2 sensor for the TrolMaster Hydro-X climate controller. It measures carbon dioxide in parts per million at the point where it hangs and sends that reading to the controller. The sensing cell is NDIR type with a 0 to 10,000 ppm range. A photocell built into the housing tells the controller whether the lights are on or off. On its own the sensor only reports. Control comes from one or more DSC-1 CO2 device stations, which switch a tank solenoid or a burner relay. Placing a Hydro-X CO2 Sensor for Readings You Can Trust
A Hydro-X CO2 sensor is only as good as the air it samples. Hang it at canopy height, near the middle of the room, where plants are drawing the gas down. Keep it clear of fan outlets, return vents, exterior walls and the CO2 injection point. A sensor in a fan blast or next to the regulator reads the air stream rather than the room. Plants use extra CO2 only while the lights are on, and the photocell lets the controller stop dosing at lights off. That saves gas and keeps the room from building up overnight. Set the target only after light intensity and feeding are dialed in, because enrichment adds little when light is the limit. Give exhaust fans and CO2 dosing separate windows so they do not fight each other. Watch the first week of readings against a handheld meter before trusting the loop. Keep the sensor dry and clean. The housing is not water resistant, so foliar spraying, condensation or a hose nearby can end its life early. Ventilate a sealed enriched room before anyone works inside it for long.
