What the TrolMaster Hawkeye Measures
This is a monitor rather than a controller, and that is the point of it. It reads temperature, humidity and carbon dioxide from one three in one sensor on a sixteen foot cable. Vapour pressure deficit is derived from the first two. Temperature covers 0 to 59 degrees Celsius to within two tenths of a degree. Humidity reads 5 to 95 percent to within seven percent. Carbon dioxide reads 0 to 2000 parts per million to within thirty parts per million. Three LED screens show the current values at a glance from across the room. Each parameter carries its own minimum and maximum setpoint, and an audible alarm sounds when a reading leaves that band. The alarm is on by default, which is the right way round for a monitor.
Using a Climate Monitor for Records Rather Than Control
The logging is the real reason to fit one. A MicroSD card up to 128 gigabytes slots into the unit, and it writes a record every fifteen seconds in plain text. That is a genuine audit trail rather than a graph you cannot export. Connect it to the network through a TrolMaster ethernet adapter or smartphone module and the app shows trends, history and alerts on a phone. Satellite services from HughesNet and Viasat will not carry it, which is worth knowing on a rural site. Power is 100 to 240 volts at 50 or 60 hertz, drawing up to 0.6 amps, with a 24 volt DC output. The carbon dioxide reading calibrates in about ninety seconds with the room at ambient. Fit the sensor at canopy height rather than beside the door, because a monitor recording the wrong place is worse than no record at all.
