How the TrolMaster HS-1 Humidistat Connects a Dehumidifier
The HS-1 is a humidistat module that puts a commercial dehumidifier under Hydro-X control. Most larger dehumidifiers offer a low-volt control option, and the HS-1 is wired exactly like an external humidistat on that circuit. It can use the thermostat wires already run to the wall where the old control sat. Because it switches only the control circuit, the module never carries the compressor's high amperage or inrush current. Its output switches a 24 V control line at up to 1 A, while the module itself draws 12 V at 0.1 A. The Hydro-X sends separate day and night humidity setpoints, chosen by the photocell status. An LCD on the station shows its state, and each station gets its own address. Firmware updates load from a Micro-SD card of 32 GB or less. The box holds the station, a 16 ft RJ12 cable, a 4 ft RJ12 cable and an RJ12 T-splitter. It is rated IP20 for 32 to 122 °F at humidity of 90 percent or less. The package measures 160 by 86 by 86 mm and ships at 0.88 lb. It carries ETL, FCC and CE marks, a three year warranty and the distributor part number TRCHS1.
Running a Dehumidifier from a Hydro-X Humidistat Station
A Hydro-X humidistat station moves the dehumidifier decision from a dial on the wall into the same controller that runs lights, fans and CO2. The payoff shows in late flower, when the room swings hardest between lights on and lights off. Lights off drops the temperature and pushes humidity up. Set the night target lower than the day target when bud rot pressure is high. Turn off the dehumidifier's own internal humidistat or set it to its lowest point so it does not argue with the controller. Check the dehumidifier manual for the terminals its external humidistat uses before landing any wire. Power everything down while wiring, and confirm the circuit is low-volt only. Mount the station on a wall near the dehumidifier and away from spray and drips. Label the address so a second unit in another room cannot be confused with it. Watch the humidity log for a few days and widen the deadband if the unit short cycles. The HS-1 is not built for line-voltage switching, so a dehumidifier without a low-volt input needs a different control path.
