Why the TrolMaster LMA-14 Exists and What It Connects To
A controller and a light fixture do not speak the same language. The controller sends digital instructions down an RJ12 cable, and an LED driver with a dimming input is waiting for an analogue voltage. This adapter sits between them and does the conversion. TrolMaster name it for Fluence, and it works with any fixture using the nought to ten volt convention. That convention covers a large slice of the horticultural LED market. The output range is zero to 11.5 volts rather than stopping at ten. That extra headroom matters on a long run. Voltage drops along a cable, and a fixture at the far end of a room would otherwise never quite reach full output. The maximum current available is 0.2 A. An LED on the body shows power, and connection back to the controller is over RJ12. The whole thing is plug and play.
Counting Fixtures, Voltage Drop and Cable Routing
Two practical limits decide the layout. The first of them is available current. At two tenths of an amp, one adapter serves a finite number of dimming inputs. Check what each driver takes on its control terminal and count them before assuming one unit covers everything. The second limit is distance. Control cable is thin and a long parallel run beside lamp power picks up electrical noise. That shows as dimming which hunts, or refuses to sit still. Route the control wiring away from power wherever the layout allows, and cross it at right angles when it has to cross. Mount the adapter somewhere you can see and reach, since its indicator is the first thing anyone checks when a room will not dim. Working conditions are thirty-two to a hundred and twenty-two Fahrenheit at ninety percent humidity or less. The packed unit measures 6.3 by 3.39 by 3.39 inches. One adapter is supplied in the box.
Key Features

- Why the headroom: Cable drop on a long run would otherwise cost full output
- Maximum current: Two tenths of an amp across all connected dimming inputs
- Connection: RJ12 back to a Hydro-X style controller
- Indicator: An LED on the body shows power
- Cable routing: Keep control wiring away from parallel lamp power runs
- Working range: Thirty-two to a hundred and twenty-two Fahrenheit
- In the box: One adapter
