What the TrolMaster DSV-1 Switches
This module gives a TrolMaster controller a selectable low-voltage output. It supplies 12 V at up to 0.5 A or 24 V at up to 0.25 A, in either DC or AC. That range covers most irrigation solenoids, small valves and audio or visual alarms. The station plugs into a 100 to 240 VAC outlet and talks to the controller over RJ12. During addressing it is assigned as a temperature, humidity, CO2 or timer device. The controller then switches the output whenever that reading or schedule calls for it. A built-in LCD shows the status at a glance. Pressing and holding the top button overrides the output on or off by hand. It works with Hydro-X and Hydro-X Pro, and TrolMaster also lists Aqua-X use for one linked master pump on 24 V. The box holds a 16 ft and a 4 ft RJ12 cable plus a T-splitter, and the station carries a 3-year warranty.
Putting a Low Volt Station to Work
A low volt station fills the gap between a controller's data bus and the small-signal devices around a grow room. A common job is opening a 24 VAC irrigation solenoid on a timer schedule. Another is sounding a strobe or buzzer when temperature or humidity drifts out of range. Assigned to CO2, it can open a low-voltage solenoid on a regulator line. Check the device's voltage and current draw before wiring, and stay within the station's rating. Match AC devices to an AC setting and DC devices to a DC setting. Run the RJ12 cable from the controller, then address the station from its LCD. Test the output with the manual override before trusting it to an automatic program. Mount it indoors, away from spray and drip lines, within 32 to 122 °F. Label each station by its job so the room stays easy to service. Set up this way, it lets one controller handle the low-voltage side of the room as well.
