A Greenhouse Curtain Motor Controller for AC Motors

Larger greenhouses often run shade and energy curtains on AC gearmotors rather than small 24V DC units. The TrolMaster AMC-1 lets the Green-X GCS-1 controller drive those motors directly. It accepts single-phase 100–277V or three-phase 207–480V power at 50/60Hz, and the output is rated up to 4A. A resettable motor protector inside the box trips on overcurrent, and its knob adjusts from 2.5 to 4 amps. In normal running the knob stays vertical, and it drops to horizontal when the breaker trips. Separate terminals take the curtain's open and close limit switches so travel stops at each end. The unit also links to TPS-1 position switches and connects to the GCS-1 over a waterproof 4-pin RS-485 lead. TrolMaster lists it as conforming to UL 508A and certified to CSA C22.2 #286. The enclosure is rated IP54 and mounts to a wall with four adapter plates. A 12 ft RJ12 to 4-pin IP65 cable comes in the box.

Installing and Programming the TrolMaster AMC-1

Pull the wires through the cable glands before connecting anything, so nothing has to be redone at reassembly. Install it after a suitable branch circuit breaker and use copper conductors of at least 18 AWG. TrolMaster's wiring sequence is limit switch first, then motor, then power. Test the open, close and stop buttons by hand before the controller is ever connected. If the curtain runs backward, swap R and S or U1 and U2 on a single-phase motor, or U and V on a three-phase motor. No limit switches in use? Short Open/Power and Close/Power together as the manual shows. Once linked, the red manual LED turns green after pressing Add/Mode and the controller takes over. From there the GCS-1 runs each curtain on time schedules plus radiation, wind, rain, temperature and humidity priorities. Wall mounting is the only supported option, so check the wall can carry the cabinet's weight. The shipping carton measures 13.39 × 9.45 × 6.30 in and weighs about 9.37 lbs.
