What the TrolMaster WD-2 Water Detector Does on a Hydro-X
The WD-2 is the water detector module for the Hydro-X environmental controller. It has a small LCD, an addressing button and two cable ports. The RJ12 cable on the left runs to the SENSORS terminal on the bottom of the Hydro-X. The lead on the right goes to the touch spot, the flat sensor pad that lies on the floor where a leak would pool. Water bridging the pad trips the module, and the Hydro-X sends an alarm to the phone app one minute later. The same alarm is logged on the controller's Alarm Message page. On the controller's screen the detector shows as a triangle, and the number inside it is the detector's position in the chain. TrolMaster allows up to eight WD-2 modules on one Hydro-X, daisy chained through RJ12 T-splitters. One T-splitter and a 16 ft RJ12 cable come in the box, so the second module joins without another trip for parts. The maker suggests one touch spot under each module. The module mounts to the wall with a single screw or hangs from a string through the top hole. It sits close to the reservoir or nutrient tank it is guarding. It is rated for 32 to 122 °F at humidity of 90 percent or less, and the board wants natural ventilation and no splashes. The EAN is on the box, and the retail package measures 6.3 by 3.4 by 3.4 in.
Setting Up a Hydro-X Flood Alarm That Actually Fires
A Hydro-X flood alarm is only as good as the spot where its pad lies, and the module can be anywhere within cable reach. Plug the RJ12 into the SENSORS port, power up, and press the addressing button once. The triangle appears on the controller with a 1 in it. Add the next module through the T-splitter, address it, and the triangle reads 2. Write the number on the module and on its pad with a marker. When the phone says detector 3 is wet at two in the morning, that number has to mean a place. Put the pad on the floor at the lowest point near the tank, not on the tank lid. A reservoir overflow runs down the outside and across the floor, and the pad should be where the water ends up. Press the pad flat so both contacts can be bridged, and keep the lead off the walkway. Test it with a wet finger the day it goes in and watch for the alarm on the screen and the phone. The one minute delay is normal and is there so a splash does not page the whole team. Keep the module itself dry. It is the pad that gets wet. A module mounted low enough to take the same flood is a detector that drowns before it reports. Wipe the housing with a dry cloth, never open it, and leave the ventilation around it clear.
