What the TrolMaster Weatherproof Box Actually Protects

Four stations in the range are the ones that end up in wet places, and this box is the enclosure for those four. TrolMaster name them as the TS-1 and TS-2 Thermostat Stations, the HS-1 Humidistat Station and the ARS-1 AC Remote Station. Each of those mounts out at the equipment rather than on a dry wall beside the controller. The protection level is specific and worth reading closely. It is protected from dripping water and from low pressure sprayed water. That covers condensate off a duct, overspray from a wash down, and the fine mist that lives near a humidifier. Choosing This Over a Full Controller Enclosure

There are two different jobs here, and TrolMaster sell two different products for them. This box protects a single station out at the equipment it controls. A cabinet such as the SCC-4, or the larger SCC-2, houses the brain of the system on a wall instead. Picking the wrong one is an easy mistake, because both get called an enclosure. The stations this box fits are all low voltage control devices. A Thermostat Station puts out 24V at a maximum of 1A to stand in for the thermostat on an HVAC unit. The AC Remote Station talks to a mini split the way its own handset does. None of them switch line voltage themselves, which is why a modest splash rated box is enough for the job. Pair it with the ECW-1 waterproof RJ12 coupler when the cable run also sits in the wet. Protecting the station and leaving the joint exposed solves only half the problem. On fit: there are exactly four compatible models and no others. Another station, a sensor or a controller may sit inside and still leave the cable entry unsealed. Treat that compatibility list as the specification it is.
