What Xtreme Gardening Mykos Actually Is

One species, no filler blend. This is Rhizophagus intraradices, an endo mycorrhizal fungus, in a granular carrier at 300 propagules per gram. That single species approach is the difference against multi species blends. A blend spreads its count across organisms that may or may not colonise your crop. It is OMRI listed and CDFA approved. The fungus colonises the root itself, then pushes hyphae out into the medium. The plant ends up drawing water and phosphorus from a volume its own roots never touch. It is an additive, not a feed, so it sits alongside whatever nutrient line you already run. Granular suits soil, coco and rockwool, and it works best where you can put it in direct contact with root tissue.

Applying a Mycorrhizal Inoculant at the Right Moment

Contact is everything with this one. The spores have to physically touch root tissue to colonise, so dusting the surface of a finished pot does very little. At transplant, put one to two tablespoons into the hole so the root ball lands on it. For a container, scale it with the pot. One to two tablespoons in a one to three gallon, four to six in a five to seven. Half a cup at ten to twenty gallons. In rockwool, one to two teaspoons directly under the roots is enough. For seed, a tablespoon per foot of row or half a teaspoon per cell. Amending bulk medium works too, at roughly a pound per four cubic feet, but still add a scoop at each plant site. Timing has a hard edge. Colonisation happens in veg, so inoculate at transplant or early, and there is no value in adding it once the plant is in flower. Mineral salts suppress microbes, which is worth knowing if you run a heavy synthetic programme.
