Coco Coir
Coco coir holds water and air together, so roots stay oxygenated while you feed often and steer dry backs. Hand-watered pots suit loose coco or a 70/30 mix. Drip rooms run FloraFlex QuickFill or CANNA Coco Flex bags, and bulk growers start from bricks.

Coco Coir
Coco Growing Media: Loose Bags, Bricks and Grow Bags
Coco coir is washed coconut husk fiber and pith, a soilless medium that holds water and air at the same time. This collection covers loose coco and coco perlite mixes, compressed bricks, and expandable grow bags and cubes. Brands include CANNA, FloraFlex, Kaya Coir, RX Green, Mother Earth, Riococo, Char Coir and Botanicare....

Coco sits in our soil and growing media range. Compare it with inert rockwool cubes and slabs or with peat-based soils for a more forgiving mix.
Types of Coco Media
Loose Coco and Coco Perlite Mixes
CANNA Coco comes washed and buffered in a 50 liter bag, ready to pot. RX Green Clean Coco 100% is OMRI Listed. FloraFlex LooseFill holds 60% water, so it runs without perlite. For more air, Mother Earth and Kaya Coir sell 70/30 coco perlite. Roots Organics Soilless Coco Mix adds castings and mycorrhizae.
Compressed Bricks and Blocks
A CANNA Coco Brick package holds two bricks that open to 20 liters each. The Kaya Coir 5 kg block expands to 65 to 70 liters. Bricks store small and suit growers who hydrate in batches.
Coco Grow Bags and Cubes
FloraFlex QuickFill bags are compressed about 5:1 and expand on the drip line. CANNA Coco Flex 4L opens to close to one gallon. RX Green, Riococo and Kaya Coir make filled or compressed grow bags. Char Coir and Botanicare CocoPro cubes replace stone wool blocks in drip rooms.
How Growers Run Coco
Coco carries little or no fertilizer, so feed from the first watering. Mother Earth advises calcium and magnesium in that feed. CANNA targets a feed pH of 5.5 to 6.2. Smaller bags dry back faster, which suits high-density drip rooms.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does coco coir need to be buffered?
Yes, unless the bag already says buffered. Raw coco holds potassium and sodium that swap for the calcium and magnesium in your feed, causing deficiencies. CANNA, RX Green, Char Coir and Kaya Coir ship buffered media. Riococo bags start near inert, and Riococo advises buffering if your water is hard.
Can I use coco coir instead of soil?
Yes, as long as you feed it like a hydroponic medium. Coco drains fast and holds little in reserve, so plants go hungry on plain water. Roots Organics tells growers to start feeding within two to three days of transplant, even with its amended mix. Expect more frequent, smaller waterings than soil.
How often to water coco coir?
CANNA suggests watering until 10 to 20% drains from the pot. Then wait until the plant has used about half that volume. One watering a day is usually enough early on. As the canopy fills, most rooms move to two feeds a day, with drip rooms running several smaller events.
Do you need perlite with coco?
No, straight coco works, but perlite adds air. FloraFlex rates LooseFill at 60% water holding capacity, enough to skip perlite. Kaya Coir lists its 70/30 coco perlite mix at 35% air-filled porosity, against 25% for its straight coco block. More air means faster dry backs and more frequent feeding.
