BioWorks Sticky Cards With a Yellow Face and a Blue Face

Each card in this box of 100 is yellow on one face and blue on the other. BioWorks built the two-colour design so one card reads two pest groups at once. The cards measure 4 x 5 in, with a printed grid and a punched hole for hanging. The yellow side pulls aphids, whiteflies and fungus gnats. The blue side is there for thrips. Hung in open air, both faces catch at the same time, so a single station reports on both groups. That cuts the number of cards a scout has to hang, walk past and read across a range. The grid splits each face into squares, so counts stay consistent from one scout to the next. A full box runs a commercial greenhouse through several weekly change-outs. The counts these cards produce are what time the next spray or beneficial release.

Hanging Double Sided Sticky Cards So Both Faces Work

Double sided sticky cards do their best work hung vertically, with both faces open to the air. Clip them just above the canopy on stakes and raise them as the crop grows. Thrips counts run higher near the ends of a house and at bench level, so keep some cards low there. Read each face separately and log the yellow and blue counts in their own columns. UConn extension puts the minimum at one card per thousand square feet, with extras near doors and vents. Change cards weekly, because dust and debris dull the glue long before the faces fill. Under mist propagation the thrips catch drops, since wet wings keep them from flying. Go light on the blue face in houses using bumblebee pollination, because the bees are drawn to it too. Parasitic wasps land on yellow, so pull cards for a day or two after a release. A hand lens at ten to fifteen power settles whether a speck is a thrips or a small gnat.

Key Features

  • Two colours on one card: Yellow for aphids, whiteflies and fungus gnats on one face, blue for thrips on the other.
  • Printed grid: Each face is divided into squares, which keeps weekly counts consistent between scouts.
  • Punched hanging hole: Cards clip or tie onto stakes and wires without extra hardware.
  • Box of one hundred: Enough cards for weekly change-outs across a commercial range.
  • Fewer stations to read: One hanging card reports on both pest groups at the same spot.
