This is the smallest filter in the Can-Lite line from Can-Filters, part number 700589. It stands 15 inches tall on a built-in 4-inch flange and is rated for a maximum of 250 CFM. Inside is a 2-inch bed of 100% Australian granular activated carbon, about 5.7 lbs of it. The whole filter weighs roughly 9 lbs, so it hangs easily from tent bars or a ceiling hook. Can-Filters uses aluminum for the top and bottom caps to keep the weight down. The outer shell is 51% open perforation, which lets air reach the whole carbon bed without a big pressure drop. A pre-filter sleeve comes fitted from the factory. Can-Filters assembles the Can-Lite line at its carbon filter plant in Vancouver, Washington. The filter is rated for operating temperatures up to 80°C.
Matching a Fan to a 4 Inch Carbon Filter
A 4 inch carbon filter works best when the fan pulling through it stays at or under its rated airflow. Can-Filters pairs this unit with its S400 fan for exhaust and its 4-inch HO fan for recirculating setups. Pushing more air than the rating shortens the time air spends in the carbon bed. Odor then slips through before the carbon has a chance to catch it. Hang the filter at the top of the tent, where the warmest and most fragrant air collects. Keep ducting short and straight between filter and fan. Every bend in the run costs airflow. Humidity matters too, because damp air loads the carbon faster and shortens its working life. Swap the pre-filter sleeve when it turns grey, and the carbon itself stays clean longer.
