Types of Grow Room Odor Filters

Inline Canister Filters

Phat packs RC 412 virgin carbon loose, not pelletized, in a 2 in bed. Can-Lite uses a 2 in bed of Australian granular activated carbon, and its 12 in model weighs 58 lbs. AC Infinity Duct filters run a 38 mm bed of Australian charcoal, with reversible flanges and two pre-filters included.

Fan and Filter Kits

The AC Infinity Air Filtration Kit PRO 6 pairs a CLOUDLINE PRO fan with a Controller 69 PRO and 25 ft of ducting. It moves up to 402 CFM. Common Culture kits match a 4 in or 6 in filter to an inline fan. A kit takes the guesswork out of a first tent build.

Pre-Filters, Refills and Intake Boxes

AC Infinity pre-filter cloths come in 4 to 12 in two-packs and keep dust off the charcoal. Air Box refills swap coconut-shell carbon cartridges into a steel housing that stays in place. The Ruck intake box holds a MERV 5 mat for incoming air.

How Growers Size and Hang Filters

Match the filter to the fan. Phat rates its 39 x 10 at 1400 CFM for scrubbing and says inline exhaust use halves that to about 700. Can-Lite notes that a fan moving less than the rating gives the air more time in the carbon. Hang the filter high in the tent, where warm air collects, and plan the load, since large canisters top 50 lbs.

What size carbon filter do I need?

Match the flange to your fan and the rating to the air you need to move. On an exhaust line, size for the inline figure, which Phat puts at about half the scrubbing rating. For example, the AC Infinity PRO 6 kit moves up to 402 CFM through a 6 in filter.

How long does a carbon filter last in a grow tent?

It depends on run hours, humidity and dust. Makers give warning signs rather than a fixed date. Air Box says odor breaking through at the exhaust, late in lights-on, is the first one. Pre-filter cloths keep dust off the charcoal, and AC Infinity flanges reverse to use more of the bed.

Carbon filter vs charcoal filter: what is the difference?

In grow rooms the terms mean the same thing: activated carbon, often sold as activated charcoal. AC Infinity calls its media Australian charcoal in an activated carbon bed. What changes between filters is the carbon grade, bed depth and packing, such as Phat's loose RC 412 carbon.
