Seabright sticky thrip leafminer traps are blue, weatherproof panels with a printed counting grid, five to a pack. As sticky traps for leaf miners and thrips, they flag adult flights early, before tunnels and scarring spread through the crop.

Seabright Sticky Thrip Leafminer Traps With a Counting Grid

Each pack holds five blue sticky panels from Seabright Laboratories, folded at 4 x 7 in and opening to 4 x 14 in of trapping surface. The blue hue is the working part, chosen for the thrips and leafminers that home in on it. The coating is Stikem Special, an odourless, oil-based adhesive that Seabright describes as non-toxic. A grid is printed across the face, so a panel becomes a number you can count rather than a rough impression. Each one comes punched with a hanging hole and a twist tie. The panels are weatherproof, which keeps them working on an open bench or an outdoor bed. Seabright's spacing is one trap about every 7 ft, or one at the end of each row. Hang them at plant level, tied to a branch or a stake. A panel can be cut down where a full face is more than the spot needs. Adhesive on skin comes off with salad oil, baby oil or a lanolin hand cleaner.

Sticky Traps for Leaf Miners and Thrips, Read Week by Week

Leafminer adults are small flies that lay eggs into the leaf, and by the time the tunnels show, a generation is already feeding inside. Catching the adults on a panel is the earlier warning. Thrips behave much the same way, scarring leaves and flowers well before anyone sees the insects themselves. Count the grid squares on the same day every week and write the totals down. A single count says very little. Several weeks of counts show whether pressure is rising, flat or falling after a treatment. Keep the panels level with the foliage as the crop grows, because a trap left well above the plants mostly catches empty air. Dust and debris dull the surface long before it looks full, so a dirty panel needs swapping regardless of the date. A trap is a monitoring tool here rather than a cure, and heavy pressure still calls for a control step. Pairing the counts with a quick look under the leaves tells you which pest is actually driving the numbers.

Key Features

  • Five folding panels: Each pack covers a small house or a run of benches, every panel opening to a full face.
  • Blue hue: The colour is chosen for thrips and leafminers, the two pests these panels are built to flag.
  • Stikem Special adhesive: Seabright's oil-based, odourless coating stays tacky and is described by the maker as non-toxic.
  • Printed counting grid: The grid turns each panel into a weekly number you can log and compare.
  • Hole and twist tie: Every panel is pre-punched and supplied with a tie for a branch or a stake.
  • Weatherproof and cuttable: The panel holds up outdoors and can be trimmed down to fit a tight spot.
