Aero-Fan FRC-2 Sets a Whole Fan Group With One Knob
Not every room needs a display, schedules or sensors to run its fans. Sometimes growers just want one knob that sets every fan in a group. The FRC-2 is that knob for Aero-Fan EC fans. Turning it clockwise raises speed up to 100%, and turning it counterclockwise lowers it to zero. One FRC-2 can control a whole group of linked fans. It talks to the fans over a digital connection rather than cutting their voltage. Power comes from the fans themselves at 12V, with a draw of 0.1A. The unit measures about 6.7 × 3.54 × 2.12 in and weighs 0.265 lbs. It works from 32 to 104°F at up to 90% humidity. The manual lists a 4 ft M12 cable in the box, while the TrolMaster site lists an ECS-9 cable.
Connecting an EC Fan Speed Dimmer
Link the fans together first, then connect the FRC-2 to the group. On its own, the knob sets group speed directly. For scheduled control, run a 12 ft ECS-9 cable from the controller's DEVICES port to the dimmer. Compatible TrolMaster controllers include the Hydro-X Pro (HCS-2), Hydro-X Plus (HCS-3), TCS-1 and GCS-1. Press the knob once to give the FRC-2 an address on the controller. After that, the knob reflects the speed set on the controller. Turning the knob or pressing a button starts a temporary override. The fans hold that manual setting for thirty minutes before the controller schedule resumes. Setting the knob to zero also turns off the swing function on fans that have it.
